The Andy Griffith Show Episode 50: Jailbreak

A team of convicts is on the loose, and the state police arrive ridiculing Sheriff Taylor and Barney. Andy cracks the case by focusing on the smallest details: a trailer hitch and an offhand remark by the dry cleaner about a suit with dog hairs. This leads to the convict's accomplice, but only after Barney somehow manages to let the one convict they have captured escaped.

"I think this the first episode and maybe the only one where we see Andy smoking. Also, the owner of the dry cleaners was smoking. And third, the female member states that she needs to go back into the trailer to get her cigarettes. My guess is this was a test episode to see how the public would respond to smoking on TAGS so that it could have a tobacco sponsor. My mother recalls the public outcry at the time when they saw Andy smoking. Well, you don’t see any smoking in later episodes, I think, and no tobacco sponsors. " - Dave from Columbia, SC

"The scene where Barney gets stuck snooping around and stoops in front of the car when it's begining to drive away is one of the best in all of TAGS!!!
