sporty young doctor, Thomas Peterson, wheels into town and has a difficult time earning Mayberry's respect. When Andy learns Opie needs his tonsils taken out, he faces his own doubts and hands Opie over to the new doctor. Opie returns from surgery alive and well, and the doctor wins acceptance.

"Although I am not a huge fan of the episodes without Barney Fife, this is one of my favorite colored episodes. The line Floyd says, "Never judge a docter by the way he carves a turkey" has become a family joke. My dad asked one day for us to list some princles our family lives by, (ie. Leave things better than you found them, etc.) and my younger sister pipes up with, "Never judge a doctor by the way he carves a turkey." We all just cracked up." - Liz from New Rochelle, NY

"It's watchable but you gotta love Helen's logic. It's only your son, the town needs a doctor, if he's a bad one take the risk anyway, if the kid dies, he dies. Floyd and Clara are funny though. "Other than Opie, Most of the characters are all old folks. So they tried to revive the ratings by bringing in younger talent. It would take more than a young doctor to heal TAGS after Barney left." - Jimmy from L.A.
